Grinding for Dummies

Really. Foley has made reel setup EASY.

Foley has added two new grinders to the spin-relief lineup; the 653 and 633. They have made reel setup even easier than before; with a setup time of 2 minutes. The 653 has a digital touch screen for setup & operation standard; while the 633 is a  more manual operation. Both incorporate the new setup features.

It starts with positioning the rear roller. A convenient chart marked by manufacturer and reel size is on the table; just set the arrow to the one that pertains to your reel. That sets up the grinding stone in relation to the centerline of the reel.

The front roller clamp is new. Gone are the V-blocks from before. Grooved roller dimensions sometimes created mounting problems in them. Also new is a positioning guage shown here; used to set a parallel line with the traverse carraige. This is done to remove any taper or "coning" in the reel during grinding.

On the 653 a "bubble" screen shows when things are in alignment. Here on the 633, LED lights let you know when you're parallel.
