Smithco Rolls Forward at GIS

Smithco didn’t disappoint again this year; bringing a new roller, sprayer and utility vehicle.

The Tournament SS roller rethinks the idea of which direction standalone rollers are going;Literally. It drives forward like a triplex; no looking side to side anymore. It comes with a 16hp Vanguard engine. Power steering standard and has a top speed of 10mph. It turns just like a triplex. I saw a video of it rolling at the show; hopefully they’ll get that up on their website.

Their new utility vehicle is the TCV 2200. It sports a gas “Big Block” 31hp Vanguard engine. It has hydrostatic drive like its bigger brother; the TCV 5000. The 2200 seats 2 people. It is rated for a payload of 2200 lbs.  Front disk brakes are standard; with hydrostatic braking for the rear.

Upgrades to the Tournament Ultra roller line include hydrostatic drive and a speed control that can be preset. The Ultra Plus has power steering.

I found it interesting that they’re going away from chain/sprocket drive and going with hydraulic. A decade ago when standalone rollers were starting to be introduced by many manufacturers, the chain/sprocket drive mantra was “No leaks!”.  I wonder if Smithco did an audit on the number of chains and sprockets being ordered by customers and decided to rethink things.
