Tech Certification Exam Passes Test

IGCEMA's certification program for Turf Equipment Management has been approved by the State of Florida Dept. of Education.

Students from Gateway College, formerly Lake City Community College, will be the first to take the certification exam upon graduation in the field of Turf Equipment Management. Passing students will be certified as Assistant Turf Equipment Technicians. The Certification program was finished a month ago and submitted to the State.

The approval means that Florida Gateway College now qualifies for full federal funding through the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 2006; passed by Congress in late July, 2006. The law, originally passed in 1984, was reauthorised in 1998 and 2006. It currently runs through 2012.

The structure for the exam began 3 years ago and has ongoing collaboration and input; keeping abreast of the latest technology and diagnostic testing procedures for golf course equipment.
